Last Day to Look Around the Old Transbay Terminal →
Today from noon to 4 p.m. you can take a tour (one per hour) of the 1939 building that used to be our transit hub and is now just a big, clunky, homeless shelter that some buses pull into. The tours will cover previously closed-off parts of the terminal, including Cuddles Bar, and the terminal jail. The old Transbay Terminal is set for demolition starting on August 13, with construction of...

Paraguayan soccer player Jose Pedroso received a 27-game suspension after putting his MMA skills to work on a referee during a Chilean second-division match. Handy Light: Tethering App Camouflaged as... →
Nick Lee’s Handy Light app, which looks like any other flashlight app that uses the iPhone’s screen to provide illumination, actually camouflages a tethering feature using the SOCKS proxy, à la Nullriver’s Software’s NetShare app that was available for a short time nearly two years ago. Alcohol-Free Bay to Breakers in 2011 →
Next year’s Bay to Breakers race might be a tepid one. Booze, floats, and unregistered runners will be banned at next year’s 100th marathon. The typically zany race has lost some of its nutty sheen over the last few years due to unruly behavior. (We can’t imagine why.) So, organizers decided to officially nix alcohol in 2011.
“Bay to Breakers is very concerned that...

Shitty economy or not, the entrepreneurial spirit is still alive. Take these bright Mission youngsters, for example. Gaucho Dave snapped this shot of them and explains:
